You don’t want your children to miss out on the experience of summer camp, but it seems that the camp you sent them to last year just doesn’t fit them. You struggle with whether you should even send them anywhere this summer – then, you discovered Hatch.
Have you heard about Hatch’s coding competition, Coding All-Stars? It’s an amazing battle of coders, hosted right here at Hatch Canada! The hardest working coders in the Hatch program are hand-picked to compete in small teams, representing their schools. We spoke with Hatch Canada Head Coach, Benson Chan, to learn a bit more about the competition.
Hatch teaches coding to prepare your kids for the digital future. Part of preparing them for that future is also helping them start and build their digital portfolios which is comprised of all of their best projects and showcases. With a digital portfolio, Hatch students can see how well they’ve progressed with coding, reminisce on their favorite projects, and most importantly use it for future job applications. We’re proud to say that Hatch Canada has helped our students build over 12,000 Digital Portfolios to date, containing more than 80,000 projects and 2,000 showcase projects.
We recently held our second annual Coding All-Stars Gala! We started the gala as a coding fair for kids that is fun and accessible to any skill level - from beginner to advanced coders. The annual event is open to all kids aged 7 to 17 interested in technology and consists of fun and engaging activities.
The Coder’s Code is by coders, for coders. A reminder that a successful coder learns, takes risks and most importantly has fun.
In front of the glare of the computer screen, we interviewed 11-year-old Jocelyn and 13-year-old Liam, siblings and Hatch all-star coders.
Adam Caplan is the Technology & Teaching Coach at St. Clement’s, an all-girls school in Toronto that is working with Hatch to offer an after-school coding program for their Middle School students. We had a chance to talk with Adam and learn about a technology educator’s perspective on the benefits of teaching children coding and programming.
Parents Jonathan and Claudia share their take on Hatch, engaged learning and the importance of recognizing the less obvious skills that after-school programs, camps and weekend programs can bring to children. With three kids, two of whom have joined us at Hatch, these parents can teach us a lot!
